53 J-3 Cub Top
of Fuselage Covered
I worked most of yesterday afternoon covering the
top of the J-3 Cub fuselage. I ended up having to use six (6) separate
pieces of tissue to complete the top covering as shown below.
This is a view looking aft down the top of the
fuselage.
This left side view shows the completed covering
in its entirety. The front planked deck came out looking very good. Notice
that the top of the fuselage starts out flat and then transitions into a "V"
all of the way back to the rear. Also the top ridge is sway back. For these
reasons, separate pieces of tissue were required to prevent wrinkles or
puckers.
This is good a close up showing the top of the
fuselage's flat portion transistioning into a "V" just behind the wing's
rear spar.
I will brush on two coats of dope and then cut
out all of the window openings, leaving the vertical braces covered. Then I
am going to have to seek advice on what kind of windshield and window
material to use, what adhesive to use, and kind of a general description
on the procedure to use..................Tandy
