 Sailplane Construction Project Session #70

Now that the cowl has been satisfactorily fitted to the fuselage, I have started covering the tail in order to do a weight and balance to determine the longitudinal location of the pylon. The picture below shows the fin, rudder, and sub rudder covered with the base covering of Polyspan Lite with one coat of nitrate clear dope. A discussion with Larry Davidson was very helpful on how to work with the Polyspan Lite. This base covering that will be the support for the second over covering of silk.

The picture below shows how the Polyspan Lite was formed around the complex fillet on the forward portion of the fin using heat and a lot of pulling and careful stretching.

Tomorrow I will start on the stab and elevators..................Tandy
