The last couple of day I have been doing some
small detail work on the J-3 Cub, which I want to share with you.
I will start with the 3/32" balsa wheel hubs
first. I gave the top surface of each hub three coats of clear dope with a
light sanding in between. Then I applied three coats of the Tamiya yellow
that I had mixed up earlier, letting each coat dry at least one hour before
applying another coat. I wanted to get a fairly smooth and slick finish so
the little "Cub" decal would stick properly. The two finished hubs are shown
below.
This shows the wheel's recessed area that the hub
goes down into.
This shows the right wheel hub glued into its
recess. :O)
The shows the tail number decal on the right side
of the rudder.
I cut several 1/16" strips of black tissue to use
for the bottom of the fuselage door and wing aileron outlines. These are
shown as follow:

I checked with Mike Midkiff to see if it is
necessary to put the aileron outlines on the bottom side of the wing panels
also. Of course the answer was "YES"! The reason I ask was because working
with 1/16" strip tissue and attaching it with acetone is such a
~~~tedious~~~ job~~~. So I will go back and put the aileron outline on the
bottom side of the wing panels tomorrow. Steve Bruno e-mailed me and said
the wing letters/number were all cut out and in the mail so I should be
receiving those maybe Tuesday. I still have to install the windows and
windshield yet. Good grief, it seems like it is taking me forever to finish
this model....................Tandy
