Comet Sailplane
Project
Sue and I went to early church this morning and
then out to breakfast. Then this afternoon we went to a matinee to see Tom
Hanks new movie "Angels and Demons" and got back home around 3:30 p.m. Since
the left half of the Sailplane wing was almost complete, I spent some time
and shaped and sanding the leading edge and putting the proper taper on the
trailing edge. Then I put the left half of the wing plan on the work table
and pinned the completed center section in place. I applied Elmer's
Carpenter aliphatic glue to the ends of the leading and trailing edges of
both panels and pinned the left half of the wing panel in place, blocking
it up at the polyhedral break with the support jig built and discussed in
Report No. 109 as shown below. The glue on the leading and trailing edge
joints was allowed to dry for about 4-1/2 hours. Before retiring for bed
this evening, aliphatic glue was worked down in between the second spar
overlap and clamped to let dry overnight. The dihedral joint will be strong
enough to take up in the morning and the other three spars will be glued and
clamped.................Tandy
