 Sailplane Construction Project Session #149

Comet Sailplane Project

I decided to change to semi gloss black Tamiya Acrylic (X-18) for the black contrast stripes on the wing and the stab. For brushing, I wanted to thin the semi gloss black just a little to make it flow on better. Tamiya makes a matching Acrylic thinner (X-20A) as shown below.

The results were most rewarding as shown on top of the stab below. I think the black contrast stripes really set off the difference in yellow and orange silk.

Here is a close up of the semi gloss black stripe separating the yellow and orange silk on the top of the left stab tip.

This is a picture of the bottom of the stab with the two removable sub fins slipped into their slots.

In this close up, notice how nicely the semi gloss black stripe separates the yellow and orange silk on the bottom of the right stab tip with the sub fin in the middle of the stripe. Originally, I was considering making the width of the black stripes on the stab narrower that those on the wing. However as you can see, a 3/8" wide black stripe was required to straddle the base of the sub fin. This same width will also be used on the wing.......................Tandy
